Lift Pass

Lift Pass is Thunder Bay Transit’s new electronic fare payment system. It makes paying for transit easy, convenient and secure. Lift Pass allows passengers to load a monthly pass or multi-ride passes onto a reloadable smart card and simply tap the card on the farebox to ride Thunder Bay Transit. Once you get your first Lift Pass, you keep using the same card, week after week, month after month.

Note: Cash will still be accepted on buses. Cash must be exact change. Operators cannot make change.

Where to get your Lift Pass

You only need a single, reloadable Lift Pass. Lift Pass can be loaded with rides or a monthly pass.

Lift Pass is available at the Transit Office, located at 570 Fort William Rd. The Transit Office is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30pm.

If you purchase a reduced fare monthly pass (Youth, Senior, Discount) your Lift Pass must be activated at the Transit Office. We require proof of eligibility to activate these passes.

*Youth, Senior, and Discount monthly passes must be activated at the Transit Office.

Traditional paper tickets will stop being sold after April 30, 2025. Paper monthly passes have been discontinued.

There is a $5.00 fee to purchase a new reloadable Lift Pass card.

Once you have your Lift Pass, you can purchase rides and passes online, or in person at the Transit Office and City Hall.

With Lift Pass, purchasing bus fare is easy - just fund, tap and go!

  • Create an online account, add your card and purchase rides or your monthly pass online with a Visa, Visa Debit, Mastercard, or Debit Mastercard.
  • Visit the Transit Administration Office, City Hall or select outlets.
